Description
The Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola are meditations, prayers and mental exercises designed to be performed over a period of four weeks or 28 days. They were written by Saint Ignatius to increase the experience of the Catholic faith, as he himself explains: “By this name is understood every way of examining the conscience, of meditating, of reasoning, of contemplating; every way of preparing and disposing the soul, to remove all disordered affections (attachments, selfishness,…) in order to seek and find the divine will.” The spiritual exercises are part of the indispensable library of every devout Catholic along with such important works as the Visits to the Blessed Sacrament of Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liborio, the diary of Saint Maria Faustino Kowalska, or the Catechism of the Holy Catholic Church. Saint Ignatius of Loyola is considered the founding patron saint of the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits.
