Description
the image of the Virgin of Carmel had appeared to Saint Simón Stock, superior general of the Order, giving him the scapular, the main sign of the Carmelite Marian cult, promising to free him from eternal punishment to those who wore it. The scapular received papal recognition in 1587 and has been endorsed by subsequent pontiffs.
